Risk Engineering: SENG 430
Concepts of risk and risk assessment, including use of all available information to provide a foundation for risk-informed and cost-effective engineering practices, examples and exercises from a variety of engineering areas.
System Safety Engineering: SENG 312/674
This semester course will be completed online and is parallel to the Texas A&M course offering. You will receive instructions on how to log in to the course the third week of January. Continuing education students might have fewer expectations than an enrolled A&M student. The instructor will outline in the syllabus and communicate expectations with participants at the beginning of the course. This course can applied towards the Process Safety Practice Certificate the MKOPSC offers.
Safety Management Systems: SENG 321/670
The course emphasizes the various safety related issues that arise in industrial settings, including health, security and environmental factors. A broad array of topics will be addressed including performance measurement and regulatory requirements, as well as the handling of toxic/flammable/explosive materials, fire protection, personal protective equipment, emergency response, and accident investigations. Design aspects are included to reduce hazards, and resolve noise and ventilation issues. While the material emphasizes industrial settings, construction as well as office environments are covered.
Consequence & Impact Analysis: SENG 422/677
Theory of flammability, fire and combustion; Fire and explosion models; Modeling consequence scenarios using available commercial software; Fire protection principles; Fire protection equipment, design and analysis; Automatic extinguishing systems; Design project.
Process Safety Engineering: SENG 455/655
This course is concerned with all aspects of Chemical Process Safety and Loss Prevention. Process Safety differs from Personnel Safety (or Industrial Hygiene), in that it is concerned primarily with the identification of potential hazards and hazardous conditions associated with the processes and equipment involved in the Chemical Process Industries, and methods of predicting the possible severity of these hazards and presenting, controlling, or mitigating them.
Materials Safety in Semiconductor Manufacturing: SENG 640
In-depth understanding of hazardous materials commonly used in semiconductor manufacturing processes; focus on the significance of hazardous materials handling and the safe way to do it; safe handling practices, storage requirements, emergency response procedures, and regulatory compliance specific to hazardous materials in semiconductor facilities; modeling and management techniques for different consequences (e.g., toxicity, fire, and explosion).
Reliability Engineering: SENG 665
This course will provide the students with the tools and techniques that can be used early in the design phase to effectively influence a design from the perspective of system reliability, maintainability, and availability. An overview of the system’s functional analysis and system architecture development heuristics will be provided. Further, the students will learn to exploit the use of state-of-the-art techniques such as fault tree analysis and Bayesian networks for reliability analysis. Students completing this course will have a good understanding of the actions and goals of a reliability program and will become familiar with current techniques and their use. Examples will cover a range of different applications with the objective of helping the student to appreciate the challenges in the varied components of complex products and engineering systems.
