Description
The Materials for Additive Manufacturing and Quality/Cost Consideration offering can be taken independently or as the second session of the Additive Manufacturing Certificate Program. This offering looks into the specifics of additive materials, the quality implications, and the perceived cost to a business. This course will assist in understanding a variety of material properties, benefits and challenges. This course will allow you to return to your industry with the ability to understand and move your company forward in the world of Additive Manufacturing.
20 Hour, ½ Expert led Lecture, ½ Hands-On
Materials for Additive Manufacturing:
- Categorize engineering materials as well as understand their mechanical and physical properties and the standard tests needed to measure application-specific material properties.
- Classify additive manufacturing technologies according to the types of materials that they can process.
- Use online resources, databases and industrial reports to identify the suitable process and material alternatives to fulfill specific industrial needs, as well as identify a set of OEMs and raw material suppliers or service bureaus.
Quality and Cost Considerations:
- List the properties most likely to need some degree of post-processing in additively manufactured parts and identify relevant post-processing methods.
- Identify factors that affect the quality of an additively manufactured part.
- Conduct process planning and optimization.
